Why MDR
MDR Construction Co., Inc. is a heavy civil contractor headquartered in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Since 1994, we have built roadways, water mains, sewer and drainage systems, and site work for MassDOT, cities, towns, and other public agencies across Massachusetts.
Our people are the reason we have lasted. Many of our team members have been with MDR for 15 to 20 years or more, and looking after them is our first priority. When you join MDR, you join a company that knows your name, backs you up in the field, and wants you here for the long run.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for positive, upbeat self-starters who take initiative and work well with others. We value people who lead by example, bring out the best in their teams, and help turn challenges and negative attitudes into constructive teamwork.
If you want to be a star player on a team that sticks together, we want to meet you.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Field Superintendent to run heavy highway and underground utility projects: roadway reconstruction, water mains, sanitary sewer, drainage, and site work for MassDOT and Massachusetts towns.
You will lead crews and subcontractors on site, keep the job safe, on schedule, and built right, and be the key link between the field and the office. Many of the crew members you will lead have been with MDR for years. They know the work, and they will back you up.
What You'll Do
Run the job
Plan, schedule, and direct all daily site operations, including subcontractors.
Work with the Project Manager to keep the job on schedule and within budget.
Read and apply all plans and specifications, and confirm crews are working from the latest revisions.
Coordinate survey needs with MDR's in-house layout person, and shoot line and grade from baselines supplied by others.
Safety & quality
Enforce MDR's safety policies and quality standards on every part of the work, alongside our Safety Director.
Train crew members on tasks so the work gets done safely and productively.
Coordinate with inspectors, resident engineers, utility companies, and police details on site.
Paperwork
Complete daily reports with quantities installed, and submit them every day.
Manage timesheets for labor and equipment, and track materials.
Collect delivery tickets and submit them to field engineers and the MDR office.
What You Bring
5+ years of heavy civil, highway, or underground utility field experience, including 5 years running crews as a Foreman or Superintendent.
Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and grades.
Experience with water main, sewer, drainage, roadway, or site work and roadway reconstruction.
A strong leader who stays calm, communicates clearly, and works well with different personalities.
Reliable, hardworking, and focused on quality and detail.
A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites across Massachusetts.
Nice to have
OSHA 30 certification.
Massachusetts Hoisting License and/or Drain Layer License.
Experience on MassDOT and municipal public works projects.
Experience with laser and GPS grade control.
Benefits
Health insurance 100% paid by MDR (union plan for union members; medical and dental for non-union employees)
Annual bonus for supervisors and foremen, and overtime at time-and-a-half
Company truck, fuel card, and phone
All safety equipment and gear supplied: hard hats, gloves, sweatshirts, coats, and rain gear
11 paid holidays and 5 paid sick days, plus 1 to 3 weeks of paid vacation for non-union employees
OSHA 10, Hoisting, CDL, and Drain Layer licenses and leadership training, paid by MDR
