Pay: $45.00 to $65.00 per hour, based on experience

The Role
We are looking for an experienced heavy civil estimator who wants to keep doing work they enjoy without a five-day week. This is a great fit for a seasoned estimator, a former Project Manager, or an industry veteran looking for a long-term part-time role or semi-retirement.
You will price MassDOT and municipal roadway, water, sewer, drainage, and site work, working directly with our owner and project teams to help MDR win well-planned, profitable work.
What You'll Do
Review MassDOT and municipal bid documents, plans, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements.
Do detailed takeoffs for roadway, utility, excavation, drainage, water, sewer, paving, and concrete work. MDR Construction Co., Inc. currently outsources some takeoff work.
Build up labor, equipment, material, trucking, and subcontractor costs, and develop crews and production rates.
Get and evaluate quotes from subcontractors, suppliers, and trucking companies.
Flag plan discrepancies, unusual contract terms, utility conflicts, and cost risks before bid day.
Prepare estimates and bid summaries for management review, and give recommendations on risk and pricing strategy.
Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when needed, and help with electronic bid submissions.
Keep organized estimating records and historical cost data.
Help Project Managers price change orders and extra work when needed.
What You Bring
Significant estimating, project management, or field management experience in heavy civil construction.
Hands-on knowledge of water main, sewer, drainage, earthwork, paving, concrete, and traffic management work.
Solid understanding of equipment, crew makeup, production rates, materials, and public contract requirements.
Comfortable with Excel and estimating software.
Good judgment and a sharp eye for risk before a bid goes in.
A degree is not required if you have substantial heavy civil experience.
Nice to have
Experience with MassDOT and Massachusetts municipal public works contracts.
Experience with various estimating software.
